How to Update a Lead's Status and What Each Status Means

Introduction

This guide explains how to update a lead’s status in your lead dashboard and what each lead status represents. Keeping your lead statuses up to date helps your team track progress, refine campaigns, and provide valuable feedback to partners.


How to Update a Lead Status

  1. Go to the Leads Dashboard
    In the left-hand sidebar, select Leads to open your lead dashboard.

  2. Locate the Lead Status Column
    Find the Lead Status column in the table. Each lead will have a current status displayed.

  3. Open the Status Menu
    Click the dropdown next to the lead’s current status. A list of available statuses will appear.

  4. Select the Appropriate Status
    Choose the new status that best represents where the lead is in the sales process.

  5. Add a Note

    Provide more information on the status for your partner/channel account manager

  6. Click Save

Note: The initial status, New Lead, is assigned automatically when a lead is first generated from LinkedIn.


Lead Status Definitions

Status

Description

New Lead

Automatically assigned when a new lead is created.

Qualified (Based on Targeting)

The lead matches your target account criteria such as job title, location, and company information. You have not started outreach

Contacting

A sales team member is reaching out to schedule a meeting or further qualify the lead.

Meeting Booked

A meeting has been scheduled with the lead.

Met/Connected

The sales team has had a conversation with the lead.

Open Opportunity

The lead is part of an active deal or pipeline opportunity. At this point you should also be registering the deal in your partner portal.

Closed Won

The lead has converted into a customer, typically with revenue associated.

Closed Lost

The deal did not convert, and no further outreach is planned.

Do Not Contact

The lead requested no further outreach.

Unqualified

The lead does not match your key target audience criteria.

Existing Customer

The lead is already a customer and does not require follow-up.


Automatic Updates

  • New Lead is assigned automatically when a lead is generated.

  • Met/Connected can update automatically if your email and calendar are connected to Relevize. When a meeting is detected with a lead’s email on your connected calendar, the system updates the status for you.

  • Partner reporting: Provides visibility to partners on meetings, opportunities, and ROI so they can continue to invest in paid social campaigns.
